Why Run…or Walk?

Ovarian CancerOvarian cancer is often called the "disease that whispers" because the early warning signs are the same as many other common conditions. There is no reliable test for ovarian cancer and one of the most successful tools we have is education. By joining in the event and learning more about ovarian cancer, you’ll be helping people everywhere move closer to the goal of ending cancer as a threat to women.

L.A. isn’t just experiencing a water shortage!

Donate BloodTwo out of three Los Angeles residents will need donated blood sometime in their lives. When this happens, Cedars-Sinai will likely be one of the places to which they will turn since the Medical Center is one of the few remaining Level 1 Trauma Centers in the city. The problem is, 54,000 blood products (such as pints of blood, platelets, etc.) are needed each year, and as other hospitals and trauma centers close, the demand increases.

In an emergency, the blood used to save lives must already be on the shelves. But not only isn’t there enough blood at the moment, the blood and blood products that do exist have a surprisingly short shelf life — only 42 days for red blood cells and five days for platelets. The lack of donated blood is as critical as the emergencies it will treat, and your help is needed.

Please call the Rita and Taft Schreiber Blood Donor Facility at (310) 423-5346, and schedule a time to donate blood. It’s located in the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, South Tower, Street level, Room 1690. It doesn’t take too long, and afterward you get a really good feeling!

We can also help you organize a blood drive at your office, or in your community. Call us at (310) 423-5346 or e-mail us now, and see how easy it is to make an important difference.
