Sparks Announce 2009 Schedule
"We are so excited to start the WNBA season in Los Angeles against the defending champions. This is great for our fans and it's great for our partners. It's our hope that we will also end the WNBA season with confetti falling from the rafters at the STAPLES Center," said Sparks President Kristin Bernert.
2009 will mark the 13th season for the Sparks, who will play on national television five times for the second consecutive season including one broadcast on ABC and four on ESPN2. Highlighting the Sparks' national television coverage is the season opener which will air on ABC against the Detroit Shock and a broadcast to end the regular season on ESPN2 against 2007 WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury on September 13th in Phoenix. The Sparks will announce a local television schedule in conjunction with Fox Sports West at a later date.
Weekends will be busy at the STAPLES Center this season as nine of the 17 regular season Sparks home games will be played on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The Sparks will face each team from Western Conference four times throughout the season and each team from the Eastern Conference twice.
