Lawson Ready To Move On Issue Of Childhood Obesity

Connecticut Sun guard Kara Lawson has joined First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Campaign. Here is what Lawson had to say about her new association.

What is the main objective of Let's Move?
“The Let's Move! campaign's main objective is to put an end to childhood obesity. First Lady Michelle Obama is very passionate about changing the habits of so many of our youth. Making better food choices, leading an active lifestyle, and encouraging others to do the same, are key pieces to altering the current landscape.”

Why was being a part of the Let's Move! program so important to you?
“This program is perfectly aligned with my core beliefs for healthy living. As a professional athlete, I know the benefits of an active lifestyle for my mind and my body. Although my job is to stay in shape, a crucial factor in my performance levels is nutrition. To have the opportunity to pass on the knowledge I've gained to the next generation, is an honor and a responsibility I take very seriously.”

Do you plan on doing anything with the campaign this off-season?
“Most of the specific details are still in the works, but you can stay updated when that information does become available by visiting www.connecticutsun.com or my Facebook Fan page, www.facebook.com/karalawsonbarling. We plan on staying local for the majority of our events. It encourages and fosters the idea that you don't have to do something huge to make a difference, help a local child, school, or community. Hopefully we can make the kids in Connecticut the healthiest kids in the country!”
